Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) – Types

There are many different types of exchange-traded fund (ETF). The products originated as equity funds that tracked the performance of broad market indices, but there are now ETFs that offer exposure to specific sectors and regions as well as other asset classes such as commodities, currencies, and other alternative assets.
